How To Apply For Student Visa

Complete guide to obtaining your student visa for studying at NIST University in India

Application Process

Student Visas are provided to individuals who wish to come to India and study at a recognized university. The entire process of student visa application only requires three steps:

  • Fill Online Application

Visit the official website of the Government of India: https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/ and complete the online application form.

  • Submit Documents

After filling up the application form, submit it along with all the required documents at the Indian Visa Application Center or at the Indian Mission.

  • Receive Visa

After successful document verification, the passport and student visa are generated, which you can retrieve from the Visa Application Center or the Indian Mission.

Eligibility

Indian Missions/Embassies grant a student visa for a period of five years or for the duration of the course of study, whichever is less. The student visa will be provided on the following grounds:

  • To foreign students coming to India to pursue full-time and regular academic studies in India.
  • To foreign students coming for industrial training, summer projects, and internships.
  • The provisional student visa is valid for six months for students who are exploring admission or taking admission tests.
  • Applicants should provide proof of admission to a full-time regular academic course in a reputed/recognized educational institution in India and evidence of financial support.
  • For admission in medical or paramedical courses, applicants must possess a "No Objection Certificate" from the Ministry of Health.
  • Spouse and dependent family members accompanying the applicant can apply for an Entry Visa (Not Tourist Visa). The Entry Visa will automatically terminate when the principal visa holder's period ends.

Visa Extension

Foreign students may apply for visa extension for a period of one year at a time up to 5 years (whichever is less for students pursuing full time and regular courses in a recognized university or institution). For extension a student must be sponsored by the university and nothing adverse must be reported against him/her.

Extension Process:

  • Visit Immigration Office

Students must visit the FRROs/District Superintendent of Police (FROs) for extension requests.

  • Annual Extension

The FRROs/FROs can grant one-year visa extensions on a year-to-year basis for up to five years.
