NIST’s journey in the sciences began in 2017 with the establishment of the School of Sciences, offering an M.Sc. program affiliated with Berhampur University. In 2024, NIST achieved the status of a unitary university, enabling it to implement an independent curriculum tailored to emerging scientific advancements.

At NIST, we emphasize a holistic approach to education, providing cutting-edge infrastructure, advanced laboratories, and numerous opportunities for students to engage in ground-breaking research. Dr. Shrabani Mahata

Dr. Shrabani Mahata

Dr. Shrabani Mahata received a research grant of ₹10.58 Lakhs from AICTE for her sponsored project titled “Development of Surface Passivated Quantum Dot Sensitized Frontier Technology Based Semiconducting Photoelectrode for H₂ Generation for Artificial Photosynthesis” during the period 2017–2020.

The project focused on developing advanced photoelectrode materials for artificial photosynthesis and sustainable hydrogen generation, contributing significantly to renewable energy research and clean technology development.

Dr. Duryodhan Sahu

Dr. Duryodhan Sahu served as the Co-Principal Investigator of the UKIERI Project worth ₹37.2 Lakhs, titled “Development of Solution Processed CdTe@ZnTe Core/Shell Nanocomposite Plasmonic Solar Cells” (DST/INT/UK/P-69/2014), jointly funded by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), India and the British Council, United Kingdom.

In recognition of his outstanding research contributions, he was honored with the Foundation Day Best Researcher Award in Chemistry by Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Odisha on two occasions, in 2019 and 2022.

We are proud to announce that K. Swatishree, a second-year M.Sc. student from the Department of Chemistry, secured the 3rd Best Poster Presentation Award at the National Conference on “Recent Advances in Chemical Sciences”, organized by the Department of Chemistry, Berhampur University.

Her award-winning presentation was titled: “Impact of Surface Ligands Passivation on Sulphur Vacancy Mediated Optoelectronic Properties of CdS Quantum Dots.”

This achievement reflects her dedication to scientific research and excellence in advanced materials and nanoscience.

Ms. Aswi Rani

We are delighted to share that Ms. Aswi Rani, a first-year M.Sc. Chemistry student, has been selected for the prestigious IASc–INSA–NASI Summer Research Fellowship Programme 2025.

As part of this highly competitive fellowship, she will undertake her research work at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Palakkad, gaining valuable exposure to advanced scientific research and innovation.

This achievement highlights her academic excellence, research potential, and commitment to pursuing high-quality scientific inquiry.
