SANKALP is a national-level techno-management symposium organized by NIST University, Berhampur, with an aim to nurture the technical expertise and skills among youngsters. The two-day event provides a unique platform to showcase their talents fuelling their innovations in all myriad forms so that they can defy the odds to achieve the pinnacle of fame and glory. Two days of extravaganza presents a plethora of events including Robotics, Web Designing, Quizzes, Coding, Paper Presentation and many more. This enthralling techno-fiesta gives a chance to students to explore and conquer the vast realm of new horizon, redefining the meaning of success itself. The mega event under the banner of ISTE kicks off on 21st of March, 2024 and will continue till 22nd March, 2024.
Sankalp 2024 organized on 21st and 22nd of March took the glorious legacy forward. During the two days 25 NIST clubs organized 47 events wherein over 3000 students participated. Waves at NIST
The institute organized its Annual Cultural Fest, Waves 2015 during 15th and 16th April 2016. These two days of fun, excitement and entertainment replenished the entire ambience of NIST. Like every year, this year also both students and faculty challenged and stretched their extracurricular talents to the extreme. The celebrations started with a series of games and sports events like Basketball, Volleyball, Football, Swimming, Lawn Tennis, Throw Ball and many more. The evening was splashed with the spirit of enjoyment as students as well as faculty members took to the stage showcasing their singing, dancing and acting talents. The second day was dedicated to various stage events like Antakshari, Dumb Charades, Debate and Skits. The skits ranged from Modern Ramayana to Student's Life and several other interesting and nerve tickling experiences. During the fest the Gold and Silver medalists were also felicitated and the deserving students were offered scholarships by the respective sponsoring faculty and staff. The Fashion Show marked the end of the eventful evening.
27 Glorious Years Celebration
NIST celebrated its 27th Foundation Day with great enthusiasm. Dr. Sukant K. Mohapatra, our Founder Chairman, extended a warm welcome to the distinguished guests attending the program. Shri Bikram Panda, MLA of Berhampur, graced the event as the chief guest, while Prof. Amiya K. Rath, the Honorable Vice-Chancellor of BPUT, and Prof. Geetanjali Dash, the Honorable Vice-Chancellor of Berhampur University, joined as esteemed guests of honor. During the event, Shri Bikram Panda conveyed his best wishes to the students for a promising future. He emphasized that over the course of 27 years, the meritorious students of NIST have elevated its reputation to a national and international level, and both the management and students should continue striving to uphold this tradition.
Dr. Sukant K. Mohapatra proudly noted that in the span of 27 years, NIST has seen 18,000 students graduate, many of whom have excelled on the global stage. Dr. Mohapatra articulated the institute's goal of becoming the premier research university in the country. Prof. Geetanjali Das acknowledged that NIST has carved a distinctive identity for Berhampur in the field of education, and she urged that this legacy be upheld in the future. She pointed out that the institute has gained approval as a university from the state government and is on the path to achieving university status, which fills them with pride. Prof. Amiya Kumar Rath stressed the institute's crucial role in providing technical and high-quality education. He highlighted the importance of faculty members in identifying and nurturing the students' skills. The event was presided over by Mr. Bimal K. Mishra, who expressed his gratitude to the organizing committee and the students for their continuous dedication and efforts.
Blood Donation camp at NIST
Team NSS at NIST University, in collaboration with Ama Odisha, successfully organized a blood donation camp on campus, collecting 123 units of blood. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Sukant K. Mohapatra, Hon'ble President of NIST University, who expressed his gratitude to the organizing team for their dedication to such a noble cause, emphasizing the significance of contributing to society. Dr. P. Rajesh Kumar, Vice Chancellor I/C, Er. Sayed Suleman Ali, Admin Head, and Dr. Bishnukar Nayak, Registrar I/C, who motivated students to actively participate in the blood donation drive. Their collective encouragement and the students' enthusiastic response reflect the strong sense of community service and social responsibility that NIST University fosters among its members. This initiative not only saved lives but also highlighted the vital role educational institutions play in giving back to society.
NISTians raft Mahanadi
Nine students and two faculty members of the National Institute of Science and Technology have gone on a river-rafting expedition from August 02, 2013, to August 04, 2013. They started the 165-km-long journey from Boudh and ended it at Banki.
After rafting about 90 kms on the first day, the team reached Sitamali. The journey was continued on the second day to cover a distance of 40 km to reach Bhatariak and on the third day the team sailed around 35 km to reach Banki. The program was organized by NIST in collaboration with the National Adventure Foundations, Odisha chapter.
"The objective of the program was to prepare the students to face any type of situations during any journey or expedition. Earlier we had conducted rafting in Manila. But this expedition was different than the previous ones as the river Mahanadi was flooded with the release of water from Hirakud reservoir," said Mr. Vinay Kumar Das, coordinator of the expedition.
Orientation day for 1st year students
NIST University warmly welcomed the Class of 2024 to their orientation program. Dr. Sukant K. Mohapatra addressed the students, discussing the ethics and rules of the #NIST family. He emphasized that NIST is more than an educational institute; it's a hub for research, extracurricular activities, and much more. Dr. P. Rajesh Kumar, the VC In-Charge, welcomed the newly joined students to the NIST family, thanking them for choosing NIST University as their place of higher learning and for putting their trust in NIST. Dr. Dhrubes Biswas, the Dean of Research & Innovation, highlighted that a BTech degree at NIST is not just about studying engineering but also about engaging in research and fostering innovation. Er. Sayed Suleman Ali, the Head of Administration, congratulated the students for being the inaugural batch of NIST University. He also encouraged them to focus on their studies while enjoying the natural beauty of the NIST campus. Prof. Ashish Kumar Dass, the Batch Coordinator for the 2024 batch, wished the new students all the best.
The Heads of Departments highlighted their ongoing departmental activities, and Dr. L.K. Raju, the Controller of Examination, explained the NIST examination system, wishing the students success over the next four years. Dr. Bhanu Prasad Behera, the Head of Placement & Career Development, outlined the placement requirements and highlighted the company visits for campus recruitment drives. Prof. Purnendu Mishra and Dr. Sasmita Padhy, the hostel superintendents, explained the rules and regulations of the NIST hostels. A pledge was conducted by Dr. P. Rajesh Kumar, VC In-Charge, and Dr. Bishnukar Nayak, Registrar In-Charge. Dr. Nayak also delivered the vote of thanks and congratulated the students. Following the event, the students were taken on a campus tour.
A Mini-Trekking Expedition
A mini-trekking expedition was organised on 10th March 2013 (Sunday) from Ramaihya Patnam to Markandi on Sea for the 1st year B. Tech., MCA, MBA, and PGDM students of the Institute. The trek was flagged off by Mr Bhawani Shankar Pattnaik, Faculty member, Dept. of CSE at 09:15 a.m. Around 135 students, staff, and faculty members participated in the trekking programme. All the trekkers were provided with T-shirt, cap, Refreshments and lunch by the institute. Among the faculty members and staff who actively participated in the trekking were, Mr R. K. Shial, Mr Anisur Rahman, Dr Mihir Hota, Mr Bishnukar Nayak, Mr Asish Dass, Mr Ashu A., Mr Mitu Baral, Mr Ashok Kumar Samantray, Dr Duryodhan Sahu and Mr Sourav Nayak. The programme was arranged and coordinated by Mr. Vinay Das, Coordinator, Students, Activity Centre.
Industrial Tour of Management Students
MBA students undertook an industrial visit to Indian Rare Earth Limited, OSCOM, Chhatrapur. Mr Ajit Kumar Tripathy, Sr. Manager, IRE, showed the students their various operational units like mining, supplementary mining, mineral separation, finished goods stockyard, logistics, central storage, auto repair, mechanical repair, railway siding apart from their administrative and safety sections. All the students were apprised about the mining, production operation, safety, HR, Marketing as well as other supportive processes. The trip highlighted various managerial functional areas. Dr Ratnakar Mishra and Ms Sanjukta Mahapatra, Faculty members, Dept. of Management Studies were with the students during the trip.
National Himalayan Trekking Expedition
If one expects to find the rarest blend of raw 'Adventure' with exquisite 'Heavenly Beauty', it is this. 'The National Himalayan Trekking' takes one into the world of gentle walks along pine-shaded slopes over the city roads to hard, perspiring treks over rough and rocky terrains crossing high mountain passes, from challenging 'on-the-top-of-bus' rides on narrow paths (at a height of 7000-8000 ft) with no fencing to rappelling straight down from the mountains, gentle shuffling of skies on easy gradients of a snow covered meadow or a wind splitting rush of a heavy downpour or an even more exciting Ice-skiing experience, a soaring flight in a hang glider or the adventurous take on the white water Rafting.
You name it, Himachal has it. NIST organized the National Himalayan Trekking Expedition. In fact, every faculty members along with students take the opportunity to experience the chilly hills in the month of May. This expedition is coordinated by the Students Activity Centre, NIST, in association with Youth Hostels Association of India (YHAI).
Parasailing
NIST, in association with National Adventure Foundation, Bhubaneswar, organized a Parasailing activity at New Cricket Ground, NIST, Palur Hills. The NIST members comprising faculty, staff and students experienced and enjoyed the Sky Ride, flying free at a height of 50ft to 300ft above the ground level. Around 218 students, besides quite a few staff and faculty members participated in the activity. It was all made possible under the able stewardship of Mr. Vinay Kumar Das, Coordinator, Student Activity Center, NIST.

Movie Making Competition
Club EUREKA organised a Movie Making Competition for the students of NIST few days back. The theme of the competition was 'NIST College Life.' Twenty two videos were uploaded in the YouTube. Based on the youtube hits: views, likes, and dislikes and the jury's marks, the winners were selected and were awarded with cash prizes (Rs. 10,000 for all winners)during Waves 2012.

SUMMER ROBOTICS WORKSHOP 2013
NIST Robotics Club (NRC) organized the Summer Workshop on Robotics for school children from 1st to 14th June 2013. The club has been organising this workshop successfully for the past eight years, where top five students from all the schools in and around Berhampur are invited. The students learn the basics of Robotics and Its Application. JUNK Robotics, Manual Robotics. LEGO Robotics, Electronics and Automatic Robotics Concepts are made clear to the students in the workshop. This is free for all the participants and the institute bears all the expenses for the same. Around 50 students from various schools participated in the workshop this year. The program was organized and coordinated by Mr Swagat Kumar Samantaray along with the club members.
EyeBotics
Think Ware, a venture of KC Robotics & Embedded Pvt. Ltd., Noida in collaboration with NIST Robotics Club conducted a Workshop on 'Eye Botics' in the college campus on 13th and 14th April 2013. This workshop focused on Image processing in Matlab Image Acquisition, Image Manipulation in MATLAB, Integrating Image Processing Code in Real Time, Ball Following Robot, and Object Tracking Robot. A total of 181 Students from different semesters participated in the workshop. Mr. Swagat Kumar Samantaray, Faculty Advisor, NRC along with the members of the club and other faculty members coordinated the workshop.
ASTRONOMY WEEK
In yet another eventful week in NIST, the NIST Astronomy Club celebrated the Astronomy Week from 16th to 20th April 2013. Over a span of five days many exciting competitions: general quiz, paper presentation, poster presentation, Vega Bond were organized in the campus where a huge participation was witnessed. On the final day the event was concluded by a documentary show to increase the inquisitiveness and awareness of the students in the field of astronomy. Ms Jyoti Padhi and Ms G. Spandana, B. Tech 2nd year secured first position in general quiz, Ms Aparna Rani Behera, B. Tech 2nd year, first in poster presentation, Mr Kunal Gaurav, Mr Jitendra Kumar and Mr Deepak Kumar, B. Tech 2nd year, first in Vega Bond and Mr Soumya Ranjan Senapati, B. Tech 1st year was adjourned the best presenter in the paper presentation competition. The program was organized by the members of the club under the guidance of Dr Mihir Hota, Faculty Advisor, Astronomy Club.
SAND ART COMPETITION
Club Eureka and Club Innova successfully conducted the Sand Art Competition in the college campus. Around 50 students (eight groups) participated in the same. Through sand art, on the theme 'Moulding Change in Society', the students presented their ideas on End of Terrorism, United India, Gender Equality, Primacy of Lord of Knowledge over the universe, Respect Women, Women at par with men, Tobacco Kills, and Pac Man - a computer game where a man is ready to kill terrorism, corruption and poverty - the three demons of humankind.
