The Berhampur based National Insitute of Science & Technology (NIST) has bagged the prestigious project "Integrated Low cost water sensors for real-time river water monitoring and decision making - a Research Initiative for Real-time River Water and Air Quality Monitoring under the DST-Intel Mission on Water and Air Quality Monitoring". The team was led by Dr. Ajit K Panda, Principal NIST and Prof. Mrinal Das, Coordinator NIST-ESSCI Center of Excellence. The project is in collaboration with IIT, Delhi, University of Hyderabad from the Indian side and University of California, Riverside and NJIT, Newark, USA from the US side. The total budget of the project is approximately Rs. 9.0 Crore.

Prof Ajit K Panda received the Award on behalf of NIST on 15th January, 2018 at a glittering ceremony held at New Delhi from Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Hon'ble Union Minister for Science & Technology, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Ministry of Earth Sciences in the presence of Prof Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary, DST, Dr. P.Bollard, VP, Intel and others.
