NIST ranked 69th in NIRF, MHRD

NIST ranked 69th at all India level and 1st Private Engineering College of Odisha by MHRD, Govt of India

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, has published the India Rankings 2016 at a glittering ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan on 4th April, 2016. This is the first effort of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) held by the Government of India. Predictably the IITs are in the top ranks followed by NITs. The Berhampur based National Institute of Science & Technology (NIST) has been ranked 69th in the entire country in Engineering. NIST by virtue of its 69th position is ranked as the first Private Engineering College of Odisha. The criteria for ranking included teaching/learning resources, research, graduation outcomes, outreach/inclusivity and perception. The data for the first four parameters, which account for 90% of the weightage, was submitted by the institutions and verified by National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), a body constituted by the HRD ministry last year to conduct annual surveys.

For the perception criterion, various stakeholders including parents, teachers, and alumni were engaged to give their feedback. More than 3,500 top higher educational institutions are under consideration for the ranking.

The Director of NIST, Prof Sangram Mudali thanked the faculty, students and all stakeholders for this huge recognition on the national front. He ascribed this success to the last 20 years of single minded effort of the management to build a world class university in the most economically and educationally deprived district of Ganjam, Odisha.

NAAC Accreditation

Awards, rewards and accreditations have become synonymous with the institution in the recent past. The latest and the most prestigious in the list of achievements is the Grade ‘A’ accreditation bestowed upon NIST by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of India (UGC) with the highest rating of 3.22 among all engineering colleges of Odisha.

NIST has been ranked 61th among the top engineering colleges of India by Outlook India 2017 which predictably has all the IITs and BITS, Pilani at the top. This is a rare honor for NIST which was established in 1996 and within a span of 21 years has reached the top spot as published by the reputed national magazine Outlook in its June 2017 edition. There are 3500 engineering colleges in India with an intake capacity of 17 lakh engineering seats. The Institutes were ranked on the basis of their Selection process, Academic Excellence, Personality Development and Individual Interface, Infrastructure and Placement.

DataQuest Ranks NIST 1st in East INDIA

NIST has been ranked 1st in Eastern INDIA and 14th among all Engineering Colleges in INDIA by DATAQUEST 2017.
BPUT students have also ranked NIST as the No.1 Engineering College of Odisha.

Best R&D Institute of Odisha

NIST has once again proved its credentials in bagging the "Best R&D Institute of Odisha". The Award was presented to Dr. Sukant Tripathy who received it on behalf of NIST at a glittering ceremony in Jaydev Bhavan, Bhubaneswar, on the occasion of Engineers Day on 15th September.

eINDIA Award bestowed on NIST

The Berhampur based National Institute of Science & Technology (NIST) has been honoured with the prestigious eINDIA 2013 Award at an event held in Hyderabad on July, 23. The Award was received on behalf of the Institute by Prof Geetika Mudali, Placement Director of NIST. The Institute won under the category of "Best Teaching Learning Institute" for their flagship product 'Online Information Systems (OIS)' implemented across the NIST campus. OIS provides "Innovative & Complete Educational Services for Students, Teachers, Parents and Management." The NIST web-based product is based on low-cost open source solutions and is currently in use in a number of campuses across India. Earlier NIST was also the recepient of the eODISHA-2013 Award given by OCAC and Department of Information Technology, Govt of Orissa.

The eINDIA Awards are given to innovative endeavors made in integrating technology in societal concerns. The Awards have been instituted with the primary aim of felicitating and acknowledging unique and innovative initiatives in the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The eINDIA Awards have been instrumental in promoting the most innovative initiatives and to spread awareness about the role of ICTs in addressing social concerns.

NIST awarded at eOdisha Summit

       National Institute of Science and Technology, Berhampur, adds another prestigious feather to its cap. The Institute bagged the ICT enabled Higher Education Institute award at the first Mega IT event, "eOdisha Summit, 2013" hosted by the Department of Information Technology, Government of Odisha, in association with Elets Technomedia. The mega event, inaugurated by the Chief Minister Mr. Navin Patnaik who was the Chief Guest on the occasion, was held in Bhubaneswar on March 6, 2013.

       Mr. Damodar Rout, Honorable Minister, Health & Family Welfare, and Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Government of Odisha, presented the award to the Institute in a grand ceremony. Mr. Bhawani Shankar Pattnaik, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science, NIST, received the award from the minister on behalf of NIST, Berhampur.

       Speaking at the inaugural function, Mr. Navin Patnaik said, "Odisha has several e-Governance projects being implemented in different development domains including education, health and the governance. The State is playing an active role for the promotion and implementation of Information & Communication Technology solutions in the government and has taken a leading role for taking the eGovernance drive during the last decade by building a strong foundation for better and more transparent governance so as to reach the unreached."

       ` "The Government of Odisha aspires to become a leading destination for investments in IT and ESDM sector so as to transform the State a knowledge society and make available the benefits of information technology to all citizens. Four major IT companies - Infosys, TCS, Wipro and Mahindra Satyam - have established their development centers in the capital which is a matter of pride for the State," the Chief Minister said.

Best Technical Institution Award

The Institute was ranked the 13th Best Private Technical Institute of India by Data Quest-a reputed IT magazine of India for the year 2015- 16. On behalf of the Institution, Dr. Ajit K Panda received the Award from the Managing Director of Data- Quest on September 21, 2015 at India Habitat Center, New Delhi.

Hat-trick Winning of the Odisha State Energy Conservation Award in “Best Performance” Category

A State Level Function on the occasion of the Energy Conservation (EC) Day on 14th December 2017 was organized by the Department of Energy, Government of Odisha, Engineer-in-Chief (Electricity)-cum-Principal Chief Electrical Inspector as a State Designated Agency at Jayadev Bhawan, Bhubaneswar. The objective of commemorating this day is to propagate the message of Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency among the general public as well as all sectors of the economy to save the life from global warming.

Odisha State Energy Conservation awards were conferred on participants of six categories i.e. Commercial Building, I.T. Industries, Hospitals, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (M.S.M.E)., Educational Institutions and Hotels for their contribution to Energy Conservation. National Institute of Science and Technology has been bestowed for the “Best performance” category of “Odisha State Energy Conservation Award” among the Academic Institutes of the state. Dr. Shom Prasad Das from NIST received the award from Shri Prafulla Mallik, Hon’ble Minister, Energy, Steel & Mines, Govt. of Odisha inaugurated the function in presence of Shri Hemant Sharma, IAS, Commissioner-cum- Secretary to Govt., Deptt. of Energy, Shri D.C. Sahoo, EIC(E)-cum-PCEI, Dr. Asutosh Debata, Director CES spoke on the occasion.

NIST has earned a special recognition for being conferred for the “Best Performance” category of the Award for the year 2015 | 2016 | 2017 three times in a row among the Academic institutes of Odisha.

NIST has been using the non-conventional energy applications in all most of its usage in the campus and hostel apart the institute has been involved in various industry automation and energy monitoring, village micro grid, policy and district renewable energy planning activities in the state and outside.
